INJECTION OF BOTULINUM TOXIN
INJECTION OF BOTULINUM TOXIN
Botulinum Toxin has been successfully used in esthetics medicine for more than a decade. It is particularly effective when injected locally to cause targeted muscle paralysis in order to attenuate expression wrinkles (frown wrinkles and crow's feet).
The hyperactivity of the muscles responsible for these wrinkles gives the face a hard and anxious appearance that can be corrected by these injections.
The surgeon will inject the necessary amount of toxin for each patient for the wrinkles to be smoothed and without freezing the mimic, for a perfectly natural result.
Instead of an injection of botulinum toxin, an injection of the filler (hyaluronic acid) may be more effective in the treatment of fine lines that cause more marked furrows in the skin.
A slight redness or small bruise may appear for a few minutes, rarely more than half an hour in the treated areas. The resumption of daily activities (not much physical effort) is possible immediately after the treatment.
Indications:
Expression wrinkles
Frown wrinkles
Wrinkles around the eye area (crow's feet)
Axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in adults
Contraindications:
• Hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin
• Patients who have taken aspirin or corticosteroids within the period of 10 days prior to the treatment
• Period of pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Inflammatory skin diseases that need to be treated before treatment.
Duration of treatment:
The treatment is done in 5 to 15 minutes and requires no special precautions. However, you should inform the doctor if you are taking any anticoagulant medications or if you have a neuromuscular disorder.
The duration of the effect:
The therapeutic effect of botulinum toxin usually manifests after a few days and persists for 2 to 4 months. A small, rapidly absorbable bruise and temporary discomfort can occur where the injections were done.
The effect being temporary, the injections can be repeated in case of recurrence of the symptomatology. The frequency of injections is limited to a maximum of a series of injections every 3-4 months to avoid or delay the development of resistance to treatment.
Indeed, a small number of patients (approximately 3%) develop antibodies against botulinum toxin sooner or later, which diminishes or abolishes the beneficial effect of the treatment.
Side effects :
• A small, rapidly re-absorbable hematoma and temporary discomfort can occur at the site of the sting.
• Possible side effects of treatment include a somewhat too great weakness of the muscle injected or of the neighboring muscles. These side effects are dose-dependent and reversible in a few days or even weeks.

Why do botulinum toxin injections with a surgeon?
A certain knowledge of the anatomy of the face is necessary and the medical doctor acquires it during his training. His medical experience allows for a perfect control of the face. Thus, he knows exactly in which part of the face he must perform the botulinum toxin injections according to the wish and to the anatomy of the patient.
The surgeon will be able to explain and propose to the patients the alternatives to the injection of botulinum toxin.
During the consultation, he can offer advice about the different sorts of treatment of wrinkles that are most adapted to the anatomy of a patient
